Nurture the villages for a developed Arunachal: Guv
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: The Governor Gen JJ Singh has called for nurturing the villages for a developed Arunachal.
“The true Arunachal Pradesh is in its villages. If they are not developed, Arunachal Pradesh is not developed”, he said this while participating in a seminar titled, ‘A long way to go for empowering the people of Arunachal Pradesh, economically for its sustained growth’ at NERIST, Nirjuli today.

Recommending his vision for empowerment of the people through taking advantage of the nature bounty, Gen Singh suggested that maximum emphasis should be given on cane and bamboo sectors.
Urging the financial institute to come forward in the empowerment of people, Gen Singh said rural people have little, if any, access to financial services. He further added, the State Khadi and Village Industries Board, the NABARD, the District Industries Centre, the Banks and other financial institutes must act as a catalyst for stronger and sustainable growth.
The solution for empowering our people begins with improving literacy and education levels that will allow everyone to fully participate in the overall economy of the State, the Governor added.
The State Government led by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and education department is in the process of revamping the education system of the state. Optimistic of positive results of the effort, he stated, as people acquire knowledge, they become better aware of their rights and duties and become active participants of the growth process rather than being mere passive beneficiaries. Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University Prof. K.C. Balliappa, , who was the Guest of Honour said “we plan but we are nowhere in implementation”. He urged upon all to change their altitude, which he termed as ‘manufacturing defect.’ He added, indigenous people have tremendous skill, be it in carpet making, weaving, cane and bamboo crafts, wood craving and we need to nurture it.
The RGU Vice Chancellor concluded his deliberation with an appeal to all enterprising people to become true entrepreneurs.
In his address the Director of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology, Nirjuli, Dr. Joram Begi linking industrialization with economic development said, our state has remained backward due to lack in industrial development. With proper direction and environment, the State has huge scope for industrialization especially small scale industries (SSI) based on cane and bamboo, herbal and honey. Terming SSI as engine of growth, Dr. Begi suggested for availing benefit out of the huge biodiversity.
He said that the role of banks and KVIB is important. Moreover, we need to patronize and encourage the local people in changing their mind sets. He also appreciated the initiative of State government in bringing out new policies.
In his keynote address, Prof. K.K. Sarkar, Secretary General, Indian Council of Small Industries (ICSI), Kolkata said any planning should be done after consultation with the people. Stressing on cultural acclimatization of the civil servants about the denizens before bringing out the Action Plan, Prof Sarkar pointed until sixties; no development was there in this part of the country. Whatever were there, were due to their natural ability and capacity, he added.
As large portion of the population are from agrarian community, empowerment can be through developing the agriculture sector, he said. Prescribing terrace farming like that in Sikkim, he also suggested for proper soil test to enhance the production. The ICSI secretary, while emphasizing on rural industrialization projects, called for injection of some elements of skill and training among rural community. Pointing at the exotic flora and fauna in the State, he urged upon the people to take up herbal and honey projects.
Earlier in his welcome address, ICSI President P. Kumar said unless the people are empowered economically, no economy could develop. The academics and those who are involved in the helm of affairs will contemplate on the theme in various technical sessions and come out with various suggestions. Getting a cue out of the deliberations, a future action plan will be drawn, he added.

Pasighat to get Polytechnic College, VKV School
Projects for Yachuli and Seppa college: Siram
PASIGHAT, Dec 19: Education Minister Bosiram Siram has said that he has proposed state government for establishing a polytechnic College and VKV school at Pasighat. Siram disclosed it while attending an education development meeting convened at deputy commissioner’s conference hall, Pasighat today .
The minister informed that Rs.12.5 crore has been sanctioned and being funded by the Centre and asked the district administration for earmarking a land measuring 40 acres for the proposed Polytechnic College and six acres for VKV school.
Earlier in the morning, Siram was accorded warm welcome by the faculties and students of JN College, Pasighat. He inspected the college laboratories, classrooms, office and library and interacted with the college authorities.
Speaking on the occasion, Siram expressed happiness and lauded both the faculties and students of the college for their brilliant performance. Siram said that computer learning courses and applications should be made compulsory for both the students and faculty members to survive in this modern and computerized world.
Replying to a memorandum submitted by the college Principal T. Talom, the minister said that he is well aware of the present problems of the college. However, priority will be given for development of Yachuli and Seppa Colleges this time, he added.
He was optimistic about Union Human Resource and Development Minister Kapil Sibal’s assurance, whom the minister met at New Delhi recently, to extend all help for reviving education system in Arunachal Pradesh. Siram also informed the meet that the Union Minister had shown keen interest in up grading the status of JNC.
While replying to another demands of the employees, Siram disclosed that Khandu govt. has already sanctioned the committed and required fund to pay arrears of employees which could be drawn within this financial year.
Taking privilege of the occasion, the minister advised the students that only routine teachings may not be beneficial every time, hence, they should take interest in vocational training and also try to bring back Gurukul atmosphere in college so that relationship between teachers and student becomes more cordial to make JNC a breeding center of intellectuals.
Later, the meeting adopted a resolution proposing the state government for establishing the proposed Polytechnic College in the area adjacent to existing upper campus of JNC and VKV school in Guminnagar area (2 mile) near the VTI, Pasighat.

Army organise Medical camp at remote Gelling
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: 19 MAHAR, under the aegis of Dinjan based Dah Division, organized
a free medical camp and AIDS awareness capsule for the residents of Gelling circle,
an extremely remote area of Upper Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh from December
14-
The camp was conducted at Gelling Village, one of the remotest villages of the state, just a few kilometers from the border. Captain P K Pandey, the medical officer said that the Army wanted to bring the medical facilities to the villagers, who otherwise have to travel to Tuting to get treatment.
The medical camp was organised in close collaboration with the local administration which chipped in to extend the services of female nursing staff for women folks. More than 150 people availed the benefits of the camp which catered for the emergency services and dispensary facilities. The medical officer of the unit also educated the local population on the important aspect of AIDS awareness. The event was largely applauded by the local people and demanded organising of more such camps in the remote bordering areas in the Siang valley.
The Army and the district medical authorities plan to conduct more such camps in the near future at the behest of MLA Tuting – Yingkiyong Aalo Libang.

He said that the up gradation of the district hospitals would benefit thousands of patients who had to travel to the state capital or outside the state to avail better heath care facilities.
He further said that the transfer and posting process of doctors and other medical staff shouldn’t be interfered with and that they should be ready to go anywhere.
Expressing his displeasure over the system of private practice by the doctors in spite of being given NPA, he said that proposals for pay clinic in the govt. hospitals was being considered so that the hospital administration, doctors and even patients could benefit.
Director Health Services Dr. T. Basar expressing his appreciation for the minister in taking a keen interest and effort towards making the health sector a better and efficient said that although there were constraints like rapidly increasing population, rising price of medicines etc, development and better services could be provided with the cooperation, coordination and support of the doctors, officials and the public.
The Govt. hospital, Daporijo has seen progress in the recent years with the decease in number of TB and other contagious disease patients and availability of specialist doctors, said the DMO Dr. J. M. Boje while highlighting the achievement and problems of the hospital. He also made a request for the provision of supervisor vehicles to DMOs, more number of ambulances, need for hearse vehicles to carry dead bodies and an eye specialist for the hospital here.

14th edition of late Tabom Bam memorial cricket trophy gets underway
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: The 14th edition of late Tabom Bam memorial cricket trophy sponsored by All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union got underway yesterday at Basar Higher Secondary School playground.
The tournament is annually conducted in memory of late Tabom Bam, who was a student of St Anthony College Shillong.
He had died on way back from AAPSU sponsored “DELHI CHALO ANDOLAN” at Cooch Bihar, West Bengal in 1994 against the presence of Chakma Hajong refugees in the state.

Chairperson, Zilla Parishad West Siang Jarsa Gamlin speaking on the occasion called upon the participating teams to play the game in true spirit of sports and lauded the students’ body for organizing the tournament.
He recalled his close association with Late Bam and stated that he was a true gentleman, who refused to die in the comfort of a friend’s lap as is the practiced in Galo tradition.
Secretary District Sports Association Kengam Ete who was the guest of honor advocated for converting the tournament to a state level competition where teams should be drawn from every district and called upon the gathering to maintain and keep every play ground clean.
The union president Takam Tatung in his address highlighted various programmes and policies the present team has undertaken and delved in length about the Chinese issue and the deplorable law & order problem in the two districts of Tirap and Changlang.
He appealed to the youths that one should not remain indifferent to the problems faced by brother and sisters in other part of the state and drove his point by saying that when one part of the body is in pain, other part is also subjected to it.
General Secretary of the Union, Tujum Poyom also spoke on the occasion and disclosed to the gathering that the present leadership is contemplating to declare the site near the Memorial of late Bam as “AAPSU MARG” and in this regard, process will be initiated soon.
Spokesperson AAPSU Tobom Dai, said that the great sacrifice made by Late Bam will continue inspire the younger generation of the state.
The function was attended among others by mother of Late Tabom Bam.
Earlier in the morning the AAPSU team along with students of Bam Secondary school paid floral tribute at the Memorial and observed two minutes silence.

This recommendation were made today by Commander 190 Mountain Brigade , C.P. Mohanty during a routined meeting with the DC Tawang Gamli Padu.
The DC agreed to lend his hand to the proposals put forward by the Commander.
The Army has agreed to assist the forest department to stop the deliberate felling of trees provided they get at least three workers to guide them. Mohanty also agreed to extend his help toward the protection and conservation of rhododendrons.

Engineers anticipate good work from MLAs
ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Engineering Service Association expressed the hope that the three engineers who went on to become MLAs, T Norbu, Ralom Borang and Markio Tado would work and contribute to the cause of the state in a positive way. In addition, the association hoped that the three MLAs would voice and support the genuine cause of the engineering fraternity in right perspective.
Oil depots ask for security
ITANAGAR: Capital Complex Petroleum Depots Association in a letter to the SP Capital Complex has asked for security at petrol depots following harassment.
President of the Association Tadar Babin in a letter informed the SP that many of those who fill oil does not pay up.
“Either they flee or takes out a letter given by some organizations including students union citing bearer of the letter be allowed to take oil” he said.
If the depot staff opposes, they misbehave and manhandle as well.
He said that the depots have been subjected to the ordeal for quite some time and it need to be stopped.
The association taking a stand has decided to register report to the Police Stations against such cases.
